This is a fast work I promised to do a long time ago, so finally it's done. It's first illustration for a project I'm working on with few guys, we'll see what comes out of it . Thanks for watching.
Done in Photoshop over a scanned pencil drawing
This work of art is dark, crushing... blistering. It represents a man, locked in a fetal position, holding his head. Even if it isn't shown, we can guess that he is screaming or growling. Shards of glass surrounds him like Damocles's swords.
This piece is raw, emotional. The artist doesn't embarrass himself with useless details, which represents well the inside of the mind. The position, as well of the colours, figurate very well the anguish and the terror that the character is feeling and we can easily see ourselves locked in this position in our deepest nighmatres, praying that this is going to end soon.
Vision : Well, I like this style, a lot. The raw aspect lets makes very emotional and we have empathy for that poor folk. There are not a lot of colours but they are well-chosen.
Originality : We have seen this theme of a man assaulted by his fears before. Although it is not the first time, the shards of glass and the way the man is drawn (not too detailed, not too simple) makes it distinguishable among other paintings.
Technique : The artist made a choice to do it quickly and we can see that. But this is made in a way that it is an expression in itself so I make it a 4 star.
Impact : This is the best part, I was very touched by the overall impression that this piece exhales. It imposed to me all it's strength, as if I was this man.
To conclude : I love "shards" by *perzo. This is a very good work of art and I wish to see more of these.
Having struggled off and on with addiction, this is an almost literal representation of how I (and several close to me) have made myself to feel by giving into a host of toxic "hobbies"...guess which 1 this rings a bell to?
